From Taylor Grant, Editor in Chief of EJC:
OUR FIRST COLOR PREVIEW!!! Check out this gorgeous artwork for "Swallowed," one of the stories in our first issue of Evil Jester Presents! Illustrated by the incredible Esteve Polls, whose work has recently graced the pages of Zorro, The Lone Ranger, and an adaptation of The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. "Swallowed" comes from the mind of Bram Stoker Award Winning author Joe McKinney, and was adapted by one of my new favorite writers, Aric Sundquist, who absolutely knocked the script out of the park. If you guys like scary, fun, and entertaining horror stories--you're gonna love this one. PS. The lettering is currently in progress, so we'll add the words last. Below is a complete list of all accepted authors for the first four issues of Evil Jester Presents. Please note, since we didn't make our pledge amount through our initial Kickstarter campaign, we are now going through Indiegogo for a new pledge amount of $5000.00 (just a third of the original pledge amount). This will cover all costs for the first issue of EJC. So far we have raised just over 3,000 dollars (as of 5-3-13). With only 11 days to go, it might be close, so please consider donating.
The final list of accepted authors for Evil Jester Comics, vol 1 - 4: AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM EVIL JESTER COMICS... We are beyond thrilled that Evil Jester Comics's first graphic novel series will include stories from multiple award-winning authors Ramsey Campbell and William F. Nolan! Other authors we've announced include Gary Braunbeck, Jack Ketchum, Holly Newstein, Jonathan Maberry, and Joe McKinney, with more incredible authors to be announced by the end of the month.
If I had to summarize how things are progressing over at Evil Jester Comics, I would have to say this - very very very fast! It is unbelievable what has happened over the past two months. I wish I could elaborate more, but certain aspects are not yet finalized. But I will keep my three readers posted (Hi Mom!) with future updates.
For the past two months I've been busy reading submissions, and every day I feel lucky to be a part of this project. I have not only acquired a new job as a scriptwriter/editor/consultant, but I have also made some very close friends in the process, friends I can converse with freely about my geeky hobbies. As of now, things are coming along beautifully with our venture into the comic world. I can say with utmost certainty that we are going to have one hell of a comic line premiering this summer! If all goes according to plan, Evil Jester Comics Issue #1 will be unleashed at the World Horror Convention 2013 in New Orleans. And yes, I plan on being there. I don't get out much, so if I do, why not go to New Orleans? Also, in January, Taylor Grant came on board as Editor-in-Chief. Currently he is working along with Charles Day to secure funding and help run day-to-day operations. Taylor knows his stuff folks, and besides being a hugely successful writer and screenwriter (he optioned/developed screenplays for Universal Studios, Dreamworks, Miramax, Lions Gate) he also possesses a ton of experience in marketing and film. We are lucky to have him join us. He even worked for Stan Lee at Marvel Comics! As for myself - I have read and critiqued over a hundred stories. We've accepted 15 stories so far, due to appear in issues #1 through #4. Each issue will be around 60+ pages, with full color artwork. Below is a list of accepted authors from our first reading period, ending on December 1st (the second reading period acceptances will be announced around March 31st). Also, this week we accepted Jonathan Maberry into the fold! If you don't know who that is, go ahead and Google his name. Do it now... Done? Below are the accepted stories (in no particular order): 1.) Joe McKinney - “Swallowed” 2.) Gregory L. Norris - “O Christmas Tree” 3.) Mark Scioneaux - “Riser” 4.) Gary Braunbeck - “We Now Pause for Station Idenitification” 5.) Benjamin Kane Ethridge - “Scissors” 6.) Holly Newstein - “The Ballad of Silas Yoder” 7.) Vince Liaguno - “The Night Nurse of Cobblestone” 8.) Jack Ketchum - “Polaroids” 9.) Aric Sundquist - “The Fifth Room” 10.) Charles Day - “The Gift” 11.) David Hayes - “Judith” 12.) Taylor Grant - “The Vood” 13.)Suzanne Robb - “Threshold” 14.) Jeremy Shipp - “Balloon Boy” 15.) Jonathan Maberry - "Like Part of the Family" Plenty more good news to come in the following months. Later my friends! --Aric S. Just found out that my story "The Fifth Room," original published in Twit Puplishing's PULP! series, will be adapted into comic form by Evil Jester Press Comics. This comic line is a new project from Charles Day, creator of Evil Jester Press, and I am beyond excited to be a part of this series. He's going for a pulpy Creepshow-esque vibe, a throwback to the 50's EC comics Tales From the Crypt and Vault of Horror, with the iconic Evil Jester himself introducing each tale. Some big names in the horror field are attached to this project (including Jack Ketchum!) so it's an honor to be included. Coincidentally, I had just started reading the first Walking Dead compendium (issues 1-48) the day I was notified of the acceptance. It's the first comic series I've read in twenty years, and I'm loving the story and artistry involved. Here's the cover artwork for the first two issues: NOTE ADDED: 12-15-12: Recently I was contacted by Charles Day, the mastermind behind Evil Jester Press, and was asked to join his staff of writers and artists. Although we don't have an official title for my position yet, we agreed that I would serve as a creative consultant for Evil Jester Comics, helping him read through a growing pile of submissions in the hopes of finding new and exciting talent. I'm very honored to join his crew, and I look forward to seeing some great stories inked and on the stand next year. I have always loved EC comics, and as a kid I read The Vault of Horror and Tales From the Crypt reprints as soon as they hit the stand. I am proud to be a part of what will be a great comic series.
